Jammu Police Intensify Tenant Verification Drive: Two FIRs Registered for Non-Compliance

In a significant step towards strengthening regional security, Jammu Police have registered two FIRs against landlords for failing to comply with the District Magistrate’s order on mandatory tenant verification. The cases, numbered 182/2024 and 184/2024, were filed at Police Station Nawabad under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

This enforcement action underscores the renewed focus on tenant verification across Jammu district, a crucial measure to address security threats linked to unverified tenants and domestic workers. The initiative mandates property owners to inform local police about any tenants occupying their properties to ensure a thorough vetting process.

Under the directive of SSP Jammu, the operation is being spearheaded by SP North Jammu and supervised by DySP Hqrs Jammu. The ongoing drive aims to identify unverified tenants or domestic helpers staying in the district without proper police background checks.

“Two FIRs have been registered under the relevant sections of the BNSS during this drive,” confirmed an official spokesperson. The crackdown serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to legal requirements for tenant verification to bolster the region’s security.

The District Magistrate’s order explicitly requires landlords to submit details of tenants and domestic helpers to their local police stations for verification. Failure to comply with this directive has prompted the registration of these FIRs.

Amid persistent security concerns, Jammu Police have urged citizens to cooperate by promptly providing tenant details to the nearest police station. “Tenant verification is both a legal obligation and a community responsibility that ensures safety and peace in our society,” emphasized SSP Jammu.

As the tenant verification campaign progresses, Jammu Police remain vigilant in addressing potential security risks and ensuring the district’s overall safety. The active participation of property owners and residents remains essential to the success of this initiative.
