Srinagar, April 2025 – The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has announced an increase in financial assistance under the State Marriage Assistance Scheme for poor girls, as per a recent order issued by the Social Welfare Department.

According to the new directive, financial assistance for girls from families holding Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) ration cards has been raised from ₹50,000 to ₹75,000. However, the assistance amount for girls belonging to Priority Households (PHH) ration card families remains at ₹50,000. This assistance is provided as a one-time benefit before the girl’s marriage.

The revised financial assistance scheme, effective from April 1, 2025, aims to support economically weaker families by ensuring timely financial aid for marriage-related expenses. The amount will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode.

The decision follows the approval of the Council of Ministers and concurrence from the Finance Department. This initiative is expected to provide significant relief to underprivileged families, ensuring financial stability for girls at the time of their marriage.

Officials have urged eligible families to take advantage of the scheme and apply through the appropriate government channels.

For further information, beneficiaries can contact the Social Welfare Department of Jammu and Kashmir.
