Mass Termination of Political Appointments Expected in Jammu and Kashmir This Week
In Jammu and Kashmir, most political appointments, including advisors, consultants, and chairpersons or vice chairpersons (except the Advocate General), are expected to be terminated this week. This development aligns with the anticipated formation of a new elected government, led by Omar Abdullah from the National Conference, which is set to take office soon. With the swearing-in of a Chief Minister and council of ministers, the role of such political appointees under the Lieutenant Governor’s administration will cease. The transition follows the lifting of President’s rule in the region, paving the way for the newly elected assembly to function. This assembly will have 90 members, with nominations for additional seats including representatives for women, Kashmiri Pandits, and West Pakistan refugees.
