Mobile Phones Recovered from Jail Inmates in Kupwara: Police Lodges Case

Kupwara, Apr 11 Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday said it recovered illegally used mobile phones from several jail inmates in Kupwara. The Police said it has accordingly lodged a case into the instant matter.

“It was reliably learnt through credible sources that certain inmates lodged in District Jail Kupwara were illegally using mobile phones, in violation of jail regulations and security protocols,” reads a statement issued to news agency Kashmir Bulletin.

“Acting swiftly on this input, a surprise search was conducted on 06/02/2025 by the Superintendent of District Jail Kupwara, assisted by a police team from Police Station Kupwara. During the search, 03 mobile phones and 01 SIM card were recovered from the possession of the jail inmates,” reads the statement, adding, “the matter was accordingly entered in the Daily Diary of Police Station Kupwara, and a detailed report was submitted before the Hon’ble Sub Judge, Kupwara. Upon review, the Hon’ble Court granted permission on 10/04/2025 to initiate investigation into the matter.”

“Consequently, FIR No. 102/2025 has been registered under relevant sections of law at Police Station Kupwara, and further investigation is underway.”

“The use of mobile phones inside jails poses a serious threat to institutional discipline and overall security. The police remain committed to taking strict action against such violations in the interest of law and public safety,” reads the statement further.
