Nepal Landslide Disaster: 63 Missing After Buses Swept into Trishuli River

Kathmandu, Nepal – A tragic landslide on the Madan-Ashrit Highway in Central Nepal swept two buses carrying an estimated 63 passengers into the Trishuli River early this morning. According to preliminary reports, both buses were carrying a total of 63 people, including the drivers.

Emergency services, including police, army, and NDRF teams, are present at the scene. However, heavy rainfall is causing delays in the rescue operations. The landslide occurred on the Narayangadh-Muglin road section, a critical route in central Nepal, now blocked due to the incident. Authorities are advising people to avoid the highway as rescue operations continue.

Nepal’s Prime Minister, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, expressed his sorrow over the incident. In a tweet, he said, “I am deeply saddened by the reports of about five dozen passengers that are missing when bus was washed away by a landslide on the Narayangadh-Muglin road section and the loss of properties due to floods and landslides in different parts of the country.” He appealed to all rescue agencies to assist citizens and urged the public to remain alert.

The NDRF & other agencies are trying to save as many passengers as possible, despite the challenging conditions.
