Omar Abdullah Govt Expected to Appoint BJP MLA Narender Singh as Deputy Speaker, No offer of Post yet: Sunil Sharma

In a significant political development, sources indicate that the National Conference (NC) government, led by Omar Abdullah, is set to finalize the post of Speaker in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly for an NC member, while reportedly leaving Congress without any ministerial role in the region. This decision could signal a strategic shift in the Assembly’s power dynamics while on the other hand BJP leader Sunil Sharma has not confirmed this move.

As part of an evolving political arrangement, the Jammu unit of BJP has proposed MLA Narender Singh as its candidate for the Deputy Speaker position. This move aligns with NC’s alleged willingness to allocate the Deputy Speaker post to the BJP, aiming to bolster cooperation with the party within the legislative assembly. This development could strengthen the BJP’s influence in the legislative proceedings while altering the distribution of power across party lines within the Assembly.

Meanwhile eader of the Opposition and BJP MLA Sunil Sharma stated on Tuesday that the ruling National Conference is yet to offer the Deputy Speaker’s post to the Bharatiya Janata Party.”So far, there has been no official communication from the National Conference regarding the Deputy Speaker’s position for the BJP,” Sharma told news agency KINS.
