Omar Abdullah Retains Ganderbal Assembly Seat, Resigns from Budgam: Speaker Pro-Tem Announces in JK Assembly
Jammu and Kashmir, October 21: Former Chief Minister and National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah has retained the Ganderbal assembly seat and officially resigned from the Budgam constituency. The announcement was made by Speaker Pro-Tem Mubarak Gul during the ongoing session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.
Omar Abdullah, who contested the Assembly elections from both Ganderbal and Budgam, chose to retain his traditional seat of Ganderbal, a constituency long associated with his political career. The resignation from Budgam paves the way for a by-election in that seat.
The NC leader’s decision reflects his focus on Ganderbal, a key constituency where the party has traditionally enjoyed a strong base. Mubarak Gul, in his official announcement, confirmed the resignation and notified that Budgam will now fall vacant, triggering electoral proceedings for a new representative.
Political observers believe this move signals Omar Abdullah’s intention to consolidate his efforts in his home constituency amid evolving political dynamics in Jammu and Kashmir.
