Over 3.5 Lakh Citizens Join ‘Swachhtantra’ Campaign Across Jammu and Kashmir
Jammu, Jan 27: The Housing and Urban Development Department (H&UDD) of Jammu and Kashmir marked the 76th Republic Day celebrations with a large-scale cleanliness initiative, “Swachhtantra,” launched across all 80 Urban Local Bodies in the Union Territory.
The campaign, held from January 21 to January 26, 2025, inspired a massive participation of over 3.5 lakh citizens. It was a defining moment in the Republic Day celebrations, showcasing a “Jan Andolan” (people’s movement) for a cleaner and greener environment.
A variety of activities were organized under the initiative, including:
- Swachhata Mein Ekta: Celebrating Unity in Cleanliness
- Nukkad Natak: “Chhote Kadam, Bade Parivartan”
- Plogging: Run for a Swachh J&K
- Plantation drives under the theme “Grow Green, Breathe Clean”
- Painting and quiz competitions to foster awareness among youth
- Sanitation drives in health institutions promoting “Pure Waters, Pure Future”
Commissioner Secretary of H&UDD, Mandeep Kaur, spearheaded the campaign and highlighted its success in promoting the ideals of Swachh Bharat Mission. Speaking on the occasion, she said, “The Swachhtantra campaign not only enhanced the spirit of Republic Day but also reinforced the vision of sovereignty, unity, and civic responsibility through the lens of cleanliness.”
The initiative witnessed collaboration among citizens, community groups, volunteers, Swachhata ambassadors, students, and officials. Over 950 sanitation activities were carried out, with participants pledging to uphold cleanliness as a personal and collective responsibility.
The campaign reflects the commitment of the people and the administration towards a sustainable and hygienic future for Jammu and Kashmir.
