Gurdaspur, Punjab – In a significant security development, the Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended a Pakistani national, identified as Mohammad Husnain, son of Mohammad Ajmal, for illegally crossing the India-Pakistan border in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district. The incident occurred during the intervening night of May 3-4, 2025, near Thakurpur village, approximately 250 meters inside Indian territory.

According to BSF officials, vigilant troops stationed at the Sahapur Forward Border Outpost detected suspicious movement around 11:10 PM on May 3. A Quick Reaction Team (QRT), led by Inspector ‘G’, swiftly responded, apprehending the intruder near Falku Nala, close to Border Pillar No. 63/M. The individual, a 24-year-old resident of Gujranwala, Pakistan, was found carrying a Pakistani National Identity Card and 40 Pakistani rupees. No suspicious items were recovered, and preliminary investigations suggest the crossing may have been unintentional, possibly due to mental health issues or disorientation.

The detainee, Mohammad Husnain, was handed over to the Punjab Police and presented before a local court, which granted a two-day police remand at Ramdas Police Station for further questioning. Authorities, including intelligence agencies, are probing potential motives, including espionage, smuggling, or terror links, though no such connections have been confirmed yet. Punjab Police sources indicated that Husnain may suffer from mental health challenges, which could explain his unauthorized entry.

This arrest comes amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, following the recent Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. The incident follows the detention of a Pakistani Ranger in Rajasthan and the ongoing custody of a BSF jawan by Pakistan Rangers since April 23, 2025, after an inadvertent border crossing. The BSF has intensified patrols along the 3,323-km India-Pakistan border, which remains one of the most sensitive and volatile frontiers due to historical and ongoing security challenges.

The BSF’s swift action has been lauded by senior officials, who emphasized the need for constant vigilance. Further investigations are underway to ascertain the full circumstances of the border breach.
