Pune Car Accident Case: JJB remanded the minor accused to Rehabilitation/Observation home till 5th June

The much publicised Pune Car Accident Case in which a minor got bail from the court within 15 hours of after his overspeeded Porsche rammed a bike & killed the two IT techs thus made public uproar.The accident happened in Koregaon Park, Pune. The driver, identified as the son of a prominent local builder, was granted bail shortly after being detained. Although legal actions are also being taken against the father of the accused and the bar that served alcohol to the minor. The Juvenile Justice Board remanded the minor accused to a Rehabilitation/Observation home till 5th June.

Conditions of bail

Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) granted the 17-year-old driver bail with specific conditions. These conditions include writing a 300-word essay on the impact of road accidents and potential solutions, assisting the Yerawada traffic police for 15 days, undergoing psychiatric counseling, and seeking treatment for alcohol de-addiction The accident occurred in Koregaon Park, resulting in the deaths of Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, who were on a motorcycle. The minor, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, was driving the Porsche, which crashed into the motorcycle. The JJB rejected the police’s request to try the minor as an adult, leading to his release on bail within 14 hours of detention Additionally, the police have filed cases against the minor’s father, the car owner, and the pub that served alcohol to the minor.

Prashant Patil, lawyer of the minor accused says, ” Today, Child in Conflict with Law (CCL) was produced before juvenile justice board. As investigating agencies had filed a review application to modify the bail order issued by the board on 19th May. So Juvenile Justice Board has directed to keep the CCL in a rehabilitation home until 5th June and a parameter has been set (for the CCL) regarding what needs to be done during these 15 days, including counselling by a psychiatrist/ psychologist. He told thatwe will get the written order tomorrow that is on 23rd May.
