Sakeena Itoo Inaugurates State-of-the-Art Cath Lab at Super Speciality Hospital Jammu

Jammu, [Date]: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, Sakeena Itoo, today inaugurated a state-of-the-art Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab) at Super Speciality Hospital, Jammu, marking a significant step in enhancing advanced cardiac care in the region.
The event was attended by MLA Jammu West, Arvind Gupta; Secretary Health and Medical Education, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah; Principal GMC Jammu, Dr. Ashutosh Gupta; Medical Superintendent of Super Speciality Hospital, Dr. Rehana Khurshid, along with medical superintendents of associated hospitals, HoDs of different specialties, and hospital staff.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Minister Sakeena Itoo emphasized that the establishment of this cutting-edge Cath Lab would significantly boost cardiac healthcare services in Jammu. “This remarkable facility will enhance the hospital’s ability to diagnose and treat complex cardiovascular diseases using the latest technology,” she stated.
She further reiterated the Omar Abdullah-led government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir, with a focus on providing world-class medical facilities. “In the recent budget, CM Omar Abdullah has allocated substantial funds for upgrading medical infrastructure in J&K. Our government is dedicated to setting up top-notch medical care facilities in all district hospitals,” Itoo added.
Cath Lab to Revolutionize Cardiac Care in Jammu
The Minister highlighted the critical role of the new Cath Lab in conducting invasive cardiac procedures, reducing treatment time, and improving patient outcomes. Equipped with advanced imaging technology, the facility will enable cardiologists to perform procedures such as angioplasty, stent placement, cardiac catheterization, temporary and permanent pacemaker implantations, and cardiac resynchronization therapy with precision and efficiency.
Additionally, the establishment of this specialized cardiac care unit will significantly reduce the need for patients to seek advanced cardiac treatment outside J&K.
Built at a cost of ₹12.5 crore, the new Cath Lab at Super Speciality Hospital Jammu is equipped to perform high-end procedures like ROTA-ablation, Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS), Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE), ASD and PDA closures, along with routine cardiac interventions such as coronary angiography and coronary angioplasty (both simple and complex).
