Samba MLA Surjeet Singh Salathia Meets Lieutenant Governor to Address Development and Sanitation Worker Issues
Yesterday, Samba MLA Surjeet Singh Salathia met with J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at the Raj Bhavan in Srinagar to discuss key development needs in the Samba- Sumb region, including establishing a degree college and installing a 10 MVA transformer. Sumb is a remote area where many villages, separated by the Basantar River, lack road access, making development challenging. Salathia also highlighted the ongoing strike by sanitation workers demanding regularization. Addressing their needs, he noted, would ensure social security and health benefits, crucial for their well-being.
Need for Infrastructure in Sumb
Many villages in Sumb are located on small hills and face difficulty accessing essential services like Education and HealthCare due to poor road connectivity. The demand for a Local Degree College reflects the desire to reduce travel burdens on students who currently face lengthy commutes. Moreover, a 10 MVA transformer installation is essential for stable electricity in this under-resourced area.
Sanitation Worker Regularization: A Vital Demand
Sanitation workers in Samba have been on strike, leading to an unsanitary environment in the town and concerns about public health. Although due to there strike there is chances of spreading of communicable disease and they should refrain from it but regulation is the basic need of these employees. Regularization would not only provide stability for these workers but also make them eligible for important benefits, including health insurance and social security. It is pertinent to mention that these sanitation workers they are all from very low ground and they don’t not have even the basic facilities for the life.
Commitment to Solutions
Salathia emphasized that addressing these needs is crucial for improving the quality of life for Samba residents. His meeting with the LG reflects his commitment to the region’s well-being and ensures these vital issues are brought to the forefront of development agendas. This step could pave the way for a more promising future for Samba’s citizens and strengthen access to basic facilities and opportunities.
