Kathua, March 24, 2025: A massive search operation is underway in the Hiranagar sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district after security forces discovered a significant cache of arms and supplies left behind by suspected infiltrators.

Intensified Search Operation

The operation began on Sunday evening (March 23) following intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in a ‘dhok’—a local term for an enclosure—inside a nursery in Sanyal village, approximately five kilometers from the International Border with Pakistan but the operation was started after locals spotted them in the nursery.

Security forces, including the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the J&K Police, swiftly launched the operation, which was later intensified on Monday morning with the deployment of:

  • Elite commandos
  • Drones for aerial surveillance
  • Sniffer dogs to track movements
  • A helicopter for reconnaissance

Recovered Items Indicate a Well-Equipped Group

Although no fresh contact has been established with the terrorists, search teams have recovered a large quantity of materials, including:

  • Several magazines of M4 Carbine (suggesting the presence of heavily armed militants)
  • A bulletproof jacket (indicating preparedness for a prolonged encounter)
  • Sleeping bags and tracksuits (suggesting plans for extended operations)
  • Multiple packets of eatables (possibly for sustenance during movement)
  • Separate polythene bags (contents to be analyzed by a bomb disposal squad)

Security Concerns and Strategic Implications

The discovery of advanced weaponry, especially M4 Carbine magazines, points to a well-equipped group, possibly linked to cross-border infiltration attempts from Pakistan. The presence of survival gear further suggests that these operatives were preparing for a long-term stay in the region.

Authorities remain on high alert, with search operations set to continue until the threat is neutralized. Additional security forces have been deployed to prevent any potential escape or movement of terrorists towards civilian areas.

Ongoing Developments

While the operation is still in progress, security agencies are analyzing the recovered materials for any intelligence leads. The J&K Police, Army, and paramilitary forces are working in coordination to thwart any potential terror attack in the region as the millitants still not in the hold of the security forces. Security forces were on job till the publishing of this news item.

Further updates are expected as the search operation continues.
