Ship hijacked off the coast of Somalia, 15 Indians included in the crew: Navy sent its war ship
A ship has been hijacked off the coast of Somalia. The crew members of the hijacked ship include 15 Indian citizens. The Indian Navy is keeping an eye on the situation. According to the news, the name of the hijacked ship is MV Leela Norfolk and it is carrying the flag of Liberia.
The Indian Navy issued a statement saying that the incident took place on Thursday evening, when the Liberian flagged ship was passing through the Arabian Sea. The ship sent a message on the UKMTO portal that about 5-6 armed unidentified men have boarded the ship and are attempting to hijack the ship. As soon as the information was received, the Indian Navy dispatched its warship INS Chennai. INS Chennai is deployed in the Arabian Sea only for maritime security. Also, on Friday morning, Navy aircraft also flew over the hijacked ship. The Navy contacted the ship and inquired about the safety of the crew members. The Navy is closely monitoring the situation along with other partner countries and agencies present in the region.
