Two Deaths from Heatstroke at LNJP Hospital, Delhi
Delhi – In the last four days, two people have succumbed to heatstroke at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital, highlighting the severe impact of the ongoing heatwave in the capital. Suresh Kumar, the Medical Director of LNJP Hospital, provided an update on the current situation.
“Currently, 9 patients are admitted to LNJP hospital with heatstroke. Out of these, 4 patients are on ventilator support due to their critical condition and multi-organ failure caused by heatstroke. Unfortunately, two patients have passed away,” Kumar said.
Heatstroke can be fatal if not treated promptly, often leading to multi-organ failure. To mitigate the risk of heatstroke, Kumar advises using an umbrella or cloth to cover the head, especially for children and the elderly who are more vulnerable to extreme heat. He also recommends consuming 4-5 liters of water daily.
The hospital staff and nurses are trained to identify and treat heatstroke patients promptly. The Delhi Health Minister has convened a special meeting to address the heatwave conditions and the rising number of heatstroke cases.
Preventive Measures Against Heatstroke
- Use Protective Coverings: Use umbrellas or cloth coverings when outdoors.
- Stay Indoors: Vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly should avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours.
- Hydration: Drink 4-5 liters of water daily to stay hydrated.
- Timely Medical Attention: Seek immediate medical help if symptoms of heatstroke appear.
