UK Parliament Commemorates 35th Anniversary of Kashmiri Pandit Exodus
London, January 16: The UK Parliament has tabled an Early Day Motion (EDM 645) to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the genocide and mass exodus of Kashmiri Pandit Hindus from Jammu and Kashmir, India. Tabled by Conservative MP Bob Blackman, the motion highlights the coordinated attacks in January 1990 by cross-border Islamic terrorists that led to the displacement, deaths, and desecration of the Kashmiri Pandit community.
The motion expresses condolences to British Hindu citizens affected by these events and strongly condemns the planned massacre and desecration of holy sites. It calls on the international community to fulfill its responsibility to prevent genocide and protect the rights of minorities.
It also urges the Government of India to recognize the genocide of Hindus in Jammu and Kashmir, enact the proposed Panun Kashmir Genocide Crime Punishment and Atrocities Prevention Bill, and restore properties belonging to the minority Hindu community in the region. Furthermore, the motion calls for the UK Government to mark January 19 as “Kashmiri Pandit Exodus Day.”
This initiative highlights the ongoing concern for justice and accountability for the atrocities committed against the Kashmiri Pandit community 35 years ago.
