Union Home Minister Amit Shah has firmly dismissed the recent tweet by National Conference leader Omar Abdullah as “misleading and speculative.” Shah clarified that the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act of 2019, which was passed by the Indian Parliament, clearly outlines the administrative framework and governance of the region. The Minister pointed out that the rules for conducting business, as per the Act, were formally notified in 2020, ensuring a stable and transparent governance system.

Shah further highlighted that there is “not even an iota of truth” in Abdullah’s claims, reinforcing that there is no ongoing proposal that supports the allegations made by the leader. He praised the people of Jammu and Kashmir for their enthusiastic participation in the recent elections, which were conducted in a free and fair manner, demonstrating their faith in the democratic process.

Shah’s remarks underline the Indian government’s commitment to promoting democracy in the region, emphasizing that any such speculation regarding changes in the governance structure is baseless and unfounded. It is pertinent to mention that Omar Abdullah yesterday on social media platform X posted that The BJP has clearly accepted defeat in J&K. Why else would the Chief secretary be assigned the duty to change transaction of business rules of the government to curtail the powers of the Chief minister / elected government and assign the same to the LG? This information has come to me from within the Secretariat. Officers would be well advised to resist any pressure to further disempower the incoming elected government.
