Bishnah, 6 April 2025: In a significant move aimed at mitigating water scarcity problems faced by farmers living in Bishnah constituency, especially the border villages, Bishnah MLA Dr. Rajiv Kumar Bhagat formally inaugurated the irrigation water (canal head) at Pandoria. The initiative is expected to bring much-needed relief to the farming community and ensure a more stable and prosperous farming season.

Local farmers, irrigation department officials and community leaders marked the culmination of Dr. Bhagat’s continuous efforts. The opening of the Pandoria Canal Head is expected to significantly improve irrigation facilities, allowing farmers to cultivate their lands more effectively and efficiently.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Bhagat emphasised his commitment towards the welfare of farmers, especially those living in challenging conditions of border villages. He highlighted the importance of irrigation in sustaining agriculture, which is the backbone of the local economy. “Our farmers are facing immense hardships due to lack of adequate irrigation facilities. The opening of this canal head is a step towards ensuring that they get the water they need to cultivate their crops and sustain their livelihoods,” he said.

He also directed the irrigation department to ensure that water reaches the last mile of the Bishnah constituency so that no farmer is deprived of this essential resource. “It is imperative that the benefits of this initiative reach every farmer in the Bishnah constituency. We have to ensure equitable distribution of water, especially to those who are at the last mile and often face the most severe water shortages,” said Dr Bhagat.

The farmers expressed their gratitude for Dr Bhagat’s proactive approach and unwavering support, said a local farmer, who was expressing the collective sentiment of the community.

The Irrigation Department officials assured the MLA and the farmers of their commitment to ensure efficient distribution of water. They outlined the measures being taken to maintain the canal and ensure that water reaches all designated areas. A senior Irrigation Department official said, “We are committed to follow the directions of the Hon’ble MLA and ensure that irrigation water is effectively distributed to all the farmers of Bishnah constituency.”

Dr Bhagat reiterated his commitment to work closely with the farmers and the Irrigation Department to ensure sustainable management of water resources. He also pledged to continue advocating for the development of infrastructure and other necessary facilities that will benefit the farmers and the community at large.
