Intense aurorae were seen at latitudes as low as Ladakh this morning due to the strongest solar storm in 2 decades & the cameras of Indian Astronomical Observatory captured its glory.
See the timelapse from all-sky camera at #Hanle #Ladakh #HDSR. Two screenshots from the video. Apart from the intense red colours, we can also see blue and purple bands due to particles at lower altitudes too. This amazing pic taken with a DSLR at 2:19 AM by Wangchuk Namgyal, Stanzin Norlha & Stanzin Norboo from the Tashi Choeling Gompa nunnery inside.
These strong geoeffective storms were due to 4 Coronal Mass Ejections travelling at high speeds hitting the Earth. They arose from Active Region AR13664 on 8-9 May.
