West Bengal Train Accident: 8 Dead, 25 Injured; Prima Facie Suggests Human Error
June 17, 2024 — In a tragic incident in West Bengal, eight people have died and 25 others have been injured in a train accident that occurred earlier today. Jaya Varma Sinha, Chairman and CEO of the Railway Board, stated that initial investigations point towards human error as the cause of the accident.
“Prima facie suggests human error as the cause. The first indications suggest that this is a case of signal disregard,” said Sinha. She emphasized the need for the proliferation of the Kavach safety system, highlighting plans to implement it extensively in West Bengal to prevent such incidents in the future.
The accident claimed the lives of the driver and assistant driver of the goods train as well as the guard of the Kanchenjunga Express train, confirmed Sinha. The Railway Board is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances leading to the tragedy.
