Wildlife Smuggling Foiled in Udhampur: 20 Parrots Rescued
Udhampur, Nov 21 As a crackdown on wildlife trafficking, the Udhampur Wildlife Department successfully intercepted an attempt to smuggle 20 parrots on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in the Samroli area.
The operation, carried out during a special naka, led to the detention of an individual transporting the birds without valid documents.
Babu Ram, Block Officer of the Wildlife Block Sudhmahadev, Udhampur, revealed that the department acted swiftly on specific intelligence about the smuggling attempt. A special checkpoint was set up at Samroli, where the suspect’s vehicle was intercepted. Upon inspection, the parrots were discovered hidden in a cage.
The rescued parrots have since been moved to the Tandey Rakh Rescue Centre in Udhampur for rehabilitation and care. Authorities have detained the smuggler, and further investigations are underway to uncover any links to larger wildlife trafficking networks.
