With the Death of Yasmeen Kouser, Unexplained Disease Claims 17 Lives in Badhaal Village, Rajouri
Rajouri, January 21, 2025 – The mysterious disease wreaking havoc in Badhaal village has claimed yet another life, bringing the total death toll to 17. The latest victim, 16-year-old Yasmeen Kouser, succumbed after battling for her life on ventilator support at SMGS Hospital in Jammu for the past week.
Tragically, Yasmeen’s death marks the eighth loss in a single family, leaving the community in shock. Her siblings Zahoor Ahmed (14), Nabeena Kouser (8), Maroof Ahmed (10), Safina Kouser (11), and Zabina Kouser (7) died earlier this week, along with their father’s uncle Muhammad Yousuf (62) and aunt Jatti Begum (60).
The family fell ill on January 12 and was initially admitted to GMC Associated Hospital Rajouri before being transferred to SMGS Hospital Jammu. Despite medical efforts, the siblings and extended family members passed away one by one.
The cause of the deaths remains unclear, with officials suspecting neurotoxins as a potential factor. Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation, with a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the tragedy.
The unexplained nature of the disease has instilled fear among the residents of Badhaal village. Javed Iqbal Choudhary, Member of Legislative Assembly Budhal, expressed his deep concern, stating, “The tragedy is worsening with each passing day. We still don’t have clarity on the cause, and innocent lives continue to be lost.”
