Kathua, Jammu & Kashmir — In a shocking incident that has devastated a family and sent ripples of grief across the town, injured brother of deceased Nakul Singh was also succumbed to injuries in AIIMS Vijaypur.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on May 6, 2026, at the brothers’ residence at Ward No.10 Rajbagh, Kathua. Nakul Singh aged 18 years was declared brought dead at GMC Kathua after suffering fatal head injuries. Nikhil Singh aged 16 who was critically injured, was referred to AIIMS Vijaypur (Jammu) for advanced treatment. As per the information shared, Nikhil Singh has also succumbed to his injuries.
Accused and Motive
Police arrested 19-year-old Parth Verma (alias Sumit), a resident of Ward No. 9, Kathua, and a close friend of Nakul Singh, within 24 hours. He has been charged in the case.
Reason behind the murders (as per police investigation):
The attack stemmed from a love rivalry (suspected love triangle). Parth Verma visited Nakul’s house on that fateful day. A heated argument broke out between the two friends over a girl. The dispute escalated into a physical scuffle around 12:40 PM. In a fit of rage, Parth allegedly picked up a cricket bat from the room and repeatedly struck Nakul on the head, causing fatal injuries.
When Nikhil Singh returned home (reportedly from school), the accused attacked him multiple times with the same bat to eliminate him as a potential eyewitness. Parth then fled the scene, taking the victim’s mobile phone.
Police recovered the weapon (cricket bat) and the stolen phone. The case was solved quickly through technical surveillance, call detail records (CDR) analysis, and interrogation, leading to the accused’s confession.
Reactions and Condolences
The brutal daylight attack inside the victims’ home has shocked the local community. Family members are grieving the loss of both sons of late Balbir Singh. Police have registered an FIR, and further investigation is ongoing.
