According to Blinken, China is thinking about offering “lethal support” to help the Russian invasion of Ukraine
Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Saturday that China is seriously considering offering lethal support, such as guns and ammunition, to help Moscow in its war against Ukraine as the attempt by Russia to annex Ukraine approaches the one-year mark.
Blinken stated in a Saturday interview with Margaret Brennan, the moderator of “Face the Nation,” that “We’ve been concerned about that prospect from day one.” When questioned about the kind of lethal assistance China is considering, Blinken gave a generic response.
Everything from ammo to the actual weapons falls under this category, which includes a wide range of items.
Importantly, Wang Yi, China’s top diplomat, disclosed last week at the Munich Security Conference that China is preparing a peace proposal to put an end to the fighting. This public stance conflicts with what U.S. intelligence has found.
“They have been spotted assisting Russia non-lethally in the Ukraine. Based on the facts we now have, we are concerned that they may be considering offering lethal support. We have made it very clear to them that this would be a severe problem for us and our partnership.”
