The maximum number of cases have come from the famous tourist destination Goa, where 34 patients of this variant have been found, followed by 9 from Maharashtra, 8 from Karnataka, 6 from Kerala, 4 from Tamil Nadu and 2 from Telangana.

At present, the number of active cases of Corona in the country has crossed four thousand. According to the Union Health Ministry, 656 new cases of corona were reported on Sunday, after which the number of active cases in the country has increased to 4,054.

What is a sub-variant JN. 1 ?

The JN.1 sub-variant was first identified in August. It is made from BA.2.86, a sub-variant of Omicron. In the beginning of 2022, BA.2.86 was the reason for the increase in corona cases. BA.2.86 did not spread widely, but it worried experts because BA.2.86 had additional mutations in its spike protein and JN.1 also has an additional mutation in its spike protein.

Experts say the increase in cases globally shows that JN. 1 – There is a sub-variant of Omicron which can easily infect even those with strong immunity. The US Center for Disease Control (CDC) has described it as the fastest growing variant in the US.

Amidst the increasing number of Corona cases in the country, there is somewhat respite that most of the patients are recovering at home, including those who have mild symptoms of the disease. According to doctors, people suffering from cold, cough or fever should maintain distance from other people and use masks and wash their hands with soap or use sanitizer.
