Encounter Breaks Out Between Security Forces and Terrorists in Kathua Forests

Kathua (Jammu & Kashmir): An encounter broke out between Pakistan-sponsored terrorists and security forces in the forest area of Kamadh Nullah in Kathua district on Wednesday. The operation is being led by the J&K Police Special Operations Group (SOG) Kathua, along with other security forces.

According to official sources, a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) had been underway in the area since Tuesday morning following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the dense forest belt. During the search operation, terrorists opened fire on the security forces, prompting retaliation and leading to an exchange of gunfire. Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group, backed by CRPF and Indian Army personnl engaged to terrorists linked to Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed amid dense vegetation and tough terrain. According to sources one Army soldier suffered a leg injury but is stable at Sub-District Hospital Billawar, with intermittent firing continuing into the night as senior officers oversee the effort.

Security forces have strengthened the cordon and additional reinforcements have been rushed to the spot to prevent the terrorists from escaping. The operation is continuing, and the area has been placed under strict surveillance.Further details are awaited as the situation remains tense.
