SRINAGAR: With temperatures soaring, the Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (JK-DMA) issued a warning on Thursday about a significant risk of forest fires in the Himalayan region over the next seven days. “Extreme forest fire risk is likely to occur over forest areas in the next 7 days. People are requested to report any incidents to 112 for a prompt response. Dial 112 for any help,” stated the JK-DMA advisory.

The Meteorological Department (MeT) also predicted a continued heat wave across the plains of Jammu and Kashmir for the next six days.

“No significant weather activity is expected until May 31,” a MeT official noted earlier in the day. “The heat wave in the plains of both the Jammu and Kashmir Divisions is likely to persist for the next six days. Even the hilly districts are expected to experience hot and dry weather during this period,” the official added.
