Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah narrowly escaped a firing incident during a wedding function in Jammu, triggering concern over the security of political leaders. The accused, identified as Kamal Singh Jamwal, was immediately overpowered by security personnel and arrested by the police.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred when Farooq Abdullah was leaving the venue after attending the ceremony. A man suddenly approached and fired a shot from a pistol. Fortunately, the bullet missed the target and no one was injured. Security staff and people present at the venue quickly apprehended the attacker and handed him over to the police.
Reacting to the incident, Farooq Abdullah said that God had saved his life, adding that in such situations “the killer always has an advantage.” He described the incident as a close escape and expressed gratitude that no one was harmed.
Police identified the accused as Kamal Singh Jamwal, a resident of Jammu. Preliminary reports suggest that the weapon used in the attack was a licensed pistol. During initial questioning, the accused allegedly claimed that he had been planning to target Farooq Abdullah for many years. However, the police are verifying his statements and investigating all possible angles behind the attack.
The incident has drawn sharp reactions from political leaders and various organizations, who have strongly condemned the attack and demanded strict action against the accused. Security agencies have also begun reviewing arrangements at public events attended by prominent leaders.
