Jammu, April 29, 2026: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has approved an 18% increase in fares for various categories of commercial passenger vehicles across the Union Territory.
According to a notification issued by the Transport Department, Civil Secretariat, the decision has been taken under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, partially modifying the earlier notification dated March 19, 2021. The revised fares will be implemented by the Transport Commissioner.
Key Highlights:
- 18% fare hike applicable to:
- Big buses (stage carriages)
- Mini and medium buses
- Taxi/Maxi cabs (including vehicles like Sumo, Bolero, Swift, Tempo Traveller, etc.)
- Tourist taxis (medium and premium segments such as Innova, Fortuner, Scorpio, etc.)
- Auto-rickshaws (petrol version)
- Tata Magic (auto stage carriages)
E-Rickshaw & E-Auto Fare Fixed Separately:
- E-rickshaws: ₹15 per kilometre
- E-autos: ₹25 for the first kilometre and ₹20 for each additional kilometre
The order aims to regulate fare structures in light of rising operational costs while ensuring uniformity across transport services.
The notification has been issued by Dr. Piyush Singla (IAS), Secretary to the Government, Transport Department, and comes into effect immediately.
