Jammu, April 28: The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on Monday quashed the preventive detention of Mehraj Malik, ruling that his detention under the Public Safety Act was “legally unsustainable” and suffered from “non-application of mind.”
The court observed that the detention order lacked proper justification and failed to meet the legal standards required under the PSA, leading to Malik’s immediate release.
Following his release, Malik addressed the media, terming his detention “unjustified” and politically motivated. He shared his experiences from inside jail, recalling the difficult conditions and emotional strain he faced during his confinement. He stated that despite the challenges, he remained firm in his beliefs and commitment to public service.
Malik also questioned the grounds on which he was detained, asserting that his arrest was aimed at silencing his voice. He emphasized the need to uphold democratic values and protect individual rights.
The development has sparked political reactions across the region, with supporters welcoming the court’s decision and calling it a victory for justice.
