Movement Restricted in Border Areas of Kathua Due to Security Situation: Heavy Vehicles Banned on Old Samba–Kathua Road at Night

Kathua, February 14: In view of the sensitive security situation along the International Border, the District Administration Kathua has imposed restrictions on movement in border areas to ensure public safety and maintain law and order.As per an order issued by District Magistrate Kathua, Rajesh Sharma (JKAS), restrictions have been imposed under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) to prevent any danger to human life and disturbance to public tranquility.The order restricts unnecessary movement within a 5-kilometer strip from the International Border falling under the Area of Responsibility of the concerned unit, stretching from BOP Pharapur forward to BOP Karol Krishna. The administration stated that the step has been taken considering the possibility of cross-border firing and to curb any anti-national activities in the region.Additionally, movement of heavy vehicles, including trucks, tippers, and multi-axle vehicles, has been prohibited on the old Samba–Kathua road between 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM.The order has come into effect from February 14, 2026, and shall remain in force for a period of 60 days from the date of issuance, unless rescinded earlier.The order has been issued ex-parte in view of the urgency of the situation, and any violation will invite punitive action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).The District Administration has appealed to the public to cooperate with authorities and strictly adhere to the directions issued in the interest of safety and security.
