
Udhampur, Sept 30: In a major success against bovine smuggling, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday seized a modified oil tanker in Granai area of Udhampur district and rescued more than 20 animals being transported illegally inside a specially created cavity in the vehicle.

DySP Headquarters Udhampur, Prehlad Sharma, said the police had received a tip-off about the smuggling attempt. “We signaled the vehicle to stop at a checkpoint, but it tried to flee. Our teams chased it, after which the driver abandoned the vehicle and escaped. More than 20 bovine animals have been rescued,” Sharma said.
Police have launched a hunt to nab the absconding driver. Officials said that a sustained campaign is underway in the district to curb bovine smuggling, and such operations will continue.
