Akhnoor, Jammu, November 20, 2025 – In a heartbreaking incident, two persons were crushed to death on the spot when a Mahindra Thar vehicle ran over them on the Jammu-Poonch highway near Guda Pattan, close to Akhnoor town on Wednesday evening.
The accident occurred when the victims, both local residents, were reportedly riding on their scooty on the roadside. Eyewitnesses said the Thar, which was moving towards Akhnoor from Jammu, suddenly veered off the road and mowed down the two individuals before coming to a halt.
Local residents and passers-by rushed to the spot and pulled the bodies from under the vehicle. Both victims succumbed to their injuries instantly. Police reached the scene shortly after and shifted the bodies to Akhnoor Sub-District Hospital for post-mortem.
A case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered and investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause—whether it was rash driving, mechanical failure, or loss of control. The identities of the deceased are being ascertained.
